01 - Video: OPERATION: poke it with a stick

[What is this? The communicator turns on to

a stick. A long, twisty, gloriously brown thing that is repeatedly poking its screen.

Holding the stick is a kid wearing shorts and long socks and a beige polo shit but that's not at all important. It's a kid, and he thinks he's getting closer to triggering an unexploded bomb every time he pokes the strange device. He looks far too bored to be doing what he thinks he's doing.]

Boring, stupid thing. Germans can't even make proper bombs, the pigs.

[Poke poke poke

Alright, he's getting bored and he's dropping the stick

and he's bending over to pick up some rocks. Can you guess what they're for?]

that made sense. Peter might still be out in the streets or something. He could use the rocks then, because what evil thing would leave him to wake up all alone in this city? Still, Edmund scoffs and puffs out his chest a little.]

There's nothing here, you know.

I wouldn't say that; there's witches, mad cows, and cougars out there.

[He nods.]

It'll be better to get to somewhere safe right now. What does the area around you look like?

There's a forest back there [point! ...not that it does much good with the communicator on the ground, staring at the sky.], some buildings over there [point!], and I think-- looks like another one of the raids, I think.

Raids...?

[Wait a second.]

Where were you last and what year is it?

[Why are you grown-ups appearing on the telly so slow? Edmund nods sagely and speaks slowly.]

Th' air raids. It's 1940-- I think-- there's newspapers around here somewhere. There should be. You ought to read a few.

[We're not slow; you just don't know.]

For you it is and back home. However, time flows differently here.

...and not to scare you, but it's 2012 for some. My guess it's the same year here too.

[HE DOESN'T GET THAT AT ALL.

Maybe he should explain it a little better.]

Alright, please listen very carefully because there's two things you have to know: one is that you're not where you think you're at. Since you said 1940, I guess it's safe to assume you're from Britain, right?

[History lessons, glad to remember them.]

This is pretty hard to swallow but...you're on another world called Fortuna. But if you want to know the exact location, it looks like you're in the city called Discedo. And secondly, the year here...it's different for everyone. It's 2012.

[No explaining but he and Flicka are heading that way.]

I'm English.

[...Edmund chews on his bottom lip. He shifts a little uncomfortable and when he finally speaks up, it's with a little croak in his voice.] ...is this in Narnia?

No, I'm afraid not.

[It's raining pretty hard now and fire pokemon weren't good in it so no horse.]

Get inside the closest building. I'm coming to get you.

[Yes and he's rather soaked but he's still thinking this is only more of that depressing English weather and that he shouldn't worry.

Edmund shoots Adam something oh so similar to a glare

and then gets to walking out of range of the communicator video.]

[If he can handle a teenager stuck in a seven year old, a glare won't phase him. In a couple hours, he'll be in Discedo. Watch out for any monsters.]

[He's found an empty room not at all far from where he's abandoned his communicator. There's mud tracks, actually, leading to where he's holed up.

Surprisingly, the boy's in good shape! He's kept quiet and he's sitting near an open door and there's a very large pile of rocks next to him. He looks like he's had a good long cry, but. Well. That's to be expected.]

[On his way to meet the boy, Adam notices the abandoned communicator and closes it before carrying it with him. It was important to have it after all. Thankfully the mud tracks helped the ranger in finding Edmund quickly as well as the rocks. He really loved those things, didn't he?

As he moved closer, he noticed the boy's face. He wouldn't blame him for being upset after all. Getting kidnapped and sent to some strange world and all alone would make a kid feel that way. Unless you were Conan. He didn't make a comment on it but instead handed him the communicator.]

You'll need this, trust me.

[His tone remained calm and quiet, just so it can help Edmund feel alright for now.]

[Yes, he likes rocks. He'd have his worn out little pocket knife out too if only he didn't think it would make him look too silly--

make him look as if he's actually scared, he means.

When he lifts his head one time to wipe his eyes he catches sight of Adam so dangerously close. He might have seen him... well, he had something in his eyes. Really.

Dark eyes are narrowed a little, but hardly threatening, and Edmund reaches out a hand to take back the communicator. He turns it around in his hands.] --'nk you.
