[ When the feed clicks on the camera is skewed slightly, poorly focused and clearly not actually intended for filming. No, this is very much an accident. ]

I'm… I am. I'm… I am. [ Sasuke is seen hunched over on his bed, eyes trained on a notebook scribbled with various English words he's studying and his mouth set in a grim line. Seems he's on contractions at the moment. ]

You will… You… ru. You ru. You'll… くそ! [ That notebook is suddenly flung away, his head sinking into his hands as Sasuke sighs out heavily. Such hot-headedness from a normally calm and collected person… Luckily for him that video cuts off before he can unwittingly reveal anything else he doesn't care to share. ]

There are wars occurring in your world?

It has a date that changes every year, but that's not the important point of the holiday. It's a time where everyone welcomes the new year in hopes of good fortune, and families come together to enjoy some Chinese cuisine.

Of course there are, there are wars in every world, are there not? But, at the moment, my world is at peace, for the most part. We haven't had a World War for nearly eighty years now.

Seems like a worthy celebration, then, even if you saying "Chinese cuisine" also doesn't mean anything to me.

I don't claim to know everything about worlds that aren't my own. We frequently have conflict but we haven't had a Great Ninja War in some time either.

It is what it is. Cuisine that originated from my home country, China.

From what I've seen, it doesn't matter what being you are, a human or a nonhuman, there's always conflict, along with good and bad people.

Really?! Yet the language you were speaking awhile ago was Japanese, the language of the country of Japan. Unless... you're from a different world where they speak the language, are you not?

It's still easier to start a war than it is to keep peace. At least, that's how things are in my world.

I've heard people talking about Japan several times now, but I'm not familiar with that land either. It's just a strange coincidence, if anything...

It is. I haven't met anyone from another world that can speak Mandarin yet.

There's a Chinese proverb that says: "The more you sweat in peacetime, the less you bleed during war." Not too many people are willing to sweat more, though.

The problem comes when war is avoided at the cost of one group of people while another continues on in peace. It isn't just.

Yes, Mandarin Chinese. I also know Cantonese, but my younger brother is more knowledgeable with that language.

You're correct. Quite a few of my siblings are here, as a matter of fact.

It is what we, those who live in the East, call the Europeans since their homelands are west of our own. Though things have settled down due to working with a world-wide economy, I still hold some grudges.

Even if peace can be attained on a global scale it doesn't cause tensions to vanish. Only one person or group is needed to provoke conflict that can escalate to outright war, regardless. Your grudges are probably well-founded.

My brothers are Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Macau. Then my sister present here is Taiwan.

I see. Japan gets mentioned often and I talk to Hong Kong frequently.

Yes, I talked to him a few days ago, Japan, I mean. And Hong Kong lives close by my own apartment.

Japan isn't someone I've talked to as much. He seems to be more elusive in my case. Hong Kong, however, is the one that's been teaching me English.

Sasuke. I would say it's a pleasure to meet you, except we're not exactly "meeting."

I'm learning, at least. I don't know how to measure his skill at conveying it, though.

Does it matter if it's in person or not?

I would suspect that he would be good with English, considering he was in England for some time. English is the primary language in that country.

Well, I usually prefer to meet people in person if it can be helped. That's just my preference, though.

Ah, I remember. He's spoken about it to me, though not in great detail. I've heard about that exchange.

Perhaps you're right. Would you rather be called China or Yao? It makes little difference to me.

I wouldn't blame him. It's not exactly the most pleasant memory.
