[You know normal people when things get them down drink, carouse, carry on, lock themselves in a tower and cry for ten years... Okay well maybe not "normal" but people other than Marco do that. Marco on the other hand, grabs a piece of chalk and makes a hopscotch set out in the middle of the most open non-plant infested piece of pavement he can find. And then of course he shows off, because when you can fly and do backflips like nothing, hopscotch is really easy.]

Oi oi, for the life of me I can't remember if there's a rhyme that goes with this, eh?

[Yes, completely showing off with a few backflips.] Anyway, someone want to come play with me?

[Feel free to mock him, yell at him for showing off, try to push him over... you know whatever.]

... ah. [He looks around, then smirks.] We could always make stuff to do.

Yeah, like what? [Lazily smirks back.]

Well, two things. [He holds up his index finger.] One, we could just go make some trouble if there's a bastard in charge here. Or two.

[He slowly wraps his arms around Marco's waist, resting his chin on his shoulder and whispering in his ear.] We could make some fun of our own~.

[You know, he almost feels bad for lying to him about this. Almost.] What makes you think it's a girlfriend, hm? Maybe it's you. [He's being more of an ass than usual. I have no idea why.]

What happened to [Hold on, worst impression of Ace ever coming up.] "Oh Marco you have this massive crush Nico Robin and blush about her all the time!" [Somehow he made Ace sound like the girls that love Gaston and swoon over him in Beauty & the Beast.]

Although if that's just your jealousy talking~ [Tugs Ace around the waist as if to kiss him, not realizing of course that such bluffs may have already been done by the other Marco.]

[...ooooh shit, he forgot that. UH, TIME FOR MORE BULLSHIT. And he says this with a straight face.] We broke up because of that, you know. You said it wouldn't be fair, and I was okay with it.

[He stares at him long and hard, pretending to be a little hurt before leaning back to almost kiss him.] ... it might be.

[Kisses Ace's forehead.]

Poor Ace. You can do a lot better than me you realize.

[kjgbjfbgjzkhbjselhkh okay that kinda caught him by surprise and yes, he does blush more. But we'll blame that on the surprise. He just shakes his head and gives Marco a kiss on the cheek.]

[Marco just laughs.] And you call me delusional.

I'm serious, eh. Luffy keeps trying to get me to have kids because he's under the impression that I will hatch baby chick nephews for him, but you should consider really settling down and having kids. [Messes up Ace's hair forever.] I'm just sort of drifting in between good times and trying to forget a few things, eh? [Sticks his tongue out despite the serious undertone to that.]

... dude, baby chick nephews would be the best. I'd go insane with a million of you running around, but goddamn, they'd be adorable.

[He hates bringing up the topic of getting a girlfriend and/or getting kids. It just.... Marco, why don't you get it?]

No. [Just flat out and serious. That's all you get.]

[Flickers a frown, he recognizes that tone from the other Ace. So much for joking around.]

Ace. [Back to deadpan joking around as if he didn't catch anything.] Wherever you're alive, I promise, your brothers just want you to be as happy as you can be. [Pokes a freckle cheek and leans his head against Ace's.] Choose your own means, just tell us what we can do to help, got it?

[He stays quiet for a bit, and leans back against him.] I'm happy with all of you, really. I just... I'm not sure if I need, much less want a family. For... a lot of reasons. I'd wind up hurting them eventually.

[A small sigh and hugs Ace tightly.]

Do you really think that? You're nothing like Roger, you know. You're a lot like Pops. Do you think he hurt us or gave us something to really live for?

[Sorry, he's not hugging back just yet.] It's not about Roger! It's-- [Why does this always have to happen...]

I'm living on borrowed time. I don't know when it'll be taken away from me, and I don't want to just leave everyone without goodbye. I don't want to have to break my girlfriend's heart from her knowing I'm gone, much less that my kids might not have a father. I could come back, and not remember a damn thing. And that's more pain than anyone deserves to go through.

And you're incapable of trusting others to make that informed decision for themselves?

Everyone dies. Sometimes sooner rather than later, but that doesn't mean you stop living because of it.

No, I'm not! But whether they can or not, I'll still be hurting them. I've hurt enough people as it is. I'm just not ready to have a family.

You wouldn't be hurting them anymore than Thatch hurt us by dying.

If you're not ready, that's fine. However you're happy is fine. But the Ace I know wouldn't let fear of something stop him from enjoying life to the fullest.

How the hell would I not be hurting them? If I leave, it's like they never had a father. I don't want my kids growing up like I did. Without parents.

I'm fine with things the way they are now. I already have everything I need, want, and a lot more than I deserve. I'm happy now.
