[ ooc: Since I'm lazy, I won't be setting up a log, but I'll have a comment at the top of this entry open for action. If you decide to throw a character at the "party," feel free to threadjack and talk with any other characters! Otherwise you're just stuck with America wallowing on you. You're also free to handwave it as "yeah they'll come by later and party with America all night awww yeah" since I'm sure everyone's busy for THE GREATEST DAY OF THE YEAR. Just let me know if you do want to handwave it!

[ America's smile grows tight. Sad. ]

Wish it was that simple. Harder to stop a mentality than a person.

[ Before he can think on that too long, he quickly brightens up. ]

But that's why the world needs people like you! No, more than just people like you, it needs you. Captain America! I'm just a country; I go with the flow of history and change as my people do. It takes humans to change things. Even just one.

[ America removes his hand from Steve's shoulder to prod him lightly over his heart. ]

The time I'm from is 1969. Rocky times, lots of challenges, especially to overcome oppression, but I try and focus on the positives. Big changes are happening. I know it takes time, but I've never been all that patient.

There's plenty of people like me, I'm sure of it. [He's just a kid from Brooklyn after all, so Steve smiles a little.] There's always people trying to do the right thing. A person doesn't need to be 'Captain America' to make a difference.

[He glances down at the finger prodding over his heart before looking back at America.]

And the fact that you're trying to overcome oppression... doesn't that mean the American people are still working towards that goal?

[ His grin broadens as he remembers the remarkable men and women (and the occasional animal) of his past who shined so brightly. He even remembers the ones who didn't make it into the history books. ]

True and true. [ Pausing for a sec, then he laughs ] You've gotta be the humblest hero I've ever met! Never quite something I've been able to master. One of the reasons why you're such an inspiration.

Have to say, you're one helluva birthday present, Steve! [ America pats him lightly on the back. ] I mean that in the best of non-creepy ways, of course.

[His own smile widens as well, glad that America is agreeing with him. He's a little embarrassed by the compliments, but Steve is glad that he's a positive influence.

He places a hand on America's shoulder, still smiling.]

Just keep standin' up. And I know you will.

[ America makes a high-pitched noise in the back of his throat when Steve's hand lands on his shoulder. It is a sound of glee. The sound of "I will forever revel in this moment of affirmation let me just take a minute to sear it into my memories forever." ]

Yessir. [ Whoops, his voice cracked like some kind of teenage boy. That's embarrassing. COUGH. ] Er, I mean, yeah. Thanks. I will.

[ Before he has another giddy freak-out about being in the same vicinity as Captain America, he takes a few deep breaths to calm himself and switches gears. ]

Say, I dunno what time you're from, but have ya heard the Beatles? That's who's playin' now on the record player. [ As he rambles he just casually puts the box back.......... ]

[Steve removes his hand and was about to ask if America was alright, when he suddenly asks about the Beatles.]

1943. Don't believe I've heard of 'em. [He looks at the record player] But they're pretty good.

[He notices America putting the box back.] Just be careful with that, okay? Or don't hand it to children.

Ah. '43. [ He nods, seeming to be in though for a sec, then brightens back up. ] Well good news is there's a bright future ahead of ya!

Er. Right. I mean, no sir. I won't. [ America ducks his face to hide the guilty look on his face. WHOOPSSSSSS. ]
