Well, what do we have here?

[And the screen flicks on to reveal... a sight familiar to some, less familiar to others. A woman, with blonde hair and striking purple eyes, wearing what looks to be a bonnet with a red ribbon tied around it.]

Interesting, that it's just like the Outside here, except there's far less people. And very interesting taste in foliage. [She motions to one of the rainbow trees behind her.]

I've already come to the assumption I'm not in an Outside World I know of, but likely another one. I don't need to know the where of this place [She's figuring that out on her own] but I am rather curious as to if anyone has a good guess to the why.

And for those of you who need to know who is addressing you - I am Yukari Yakumo, Youkai of Borders. [She's not feeling very 'youkai-like' today, though. Must be the chip.]

Sorry, I haven't heard that in a while. Not here, anyway.

Oh, it's alright. I don't expect there to be many youkai running around, at all, either, so you can be surprised.

[ This is his surprised face though. ;;; Oh, but wait, where are his manners.... ]

... As in the city, or do your parents have an ironic taste in names?

I get that a lot. I'm the city. [ And she is one of the first people who didn't call him a country instead. Interesting. ]

[Pause.

[And her fan... very slowly raises to her lips as she contemplates this.]

[ He nods. He's had every reaction imaginable, so he's pretty accustomed to pretty much anything. ] Yep. That's me.

Hm. Well, I suppose there's a first time for everything, though I am more accustomed to smaller things and objects manifesting an intelligent, often humanoid form.

[Aka she's used to youkai, this isn't too weird.]

Wait 'til you meet my brother. [ He leans back a little. ] What kinds of smaller things?

And oh... mostly things that have become abandoned or forgotten and manifest spirits. I know of an umbrella off the top of my head - a karakasa.

Yeah, China.

[ He nods. ] Okay, yeah. That makes sense. I think I heard about that some time. [ From Japan, of course. ]

China... the country, then, I assume.

... Yes, that is rather strange. You see, if something is not already truly living, then it usually has to be abandoned to manifest such a spirit.

I have to say, your existence intrigues me. [Which is... uh. Sometimes a good thing. Sometimes not.]

We kinda stop existing if we get "abandoned," actually. [ So that's different. ]

I hope that's a good thing. [ Oh dear. ]

[The exact opposite, in fact.]

In that case, it's even more interesting to me. Though I suppose, in the end, the same can be said of some of the youkai I know.

And yes, it is. It's not as though I am going to attack you, despite the reputation things called 'youkai' have for that.

[ Oopsie daisy. ]

You can't do much damage right now, can you? Without your abilities? Not that I'm saying I think you would or anything.

Even if I had them, I wouldn't do such a thing, anyway. I'm far beyond that point in my life. Besides you're not actually human yourself, are you?

[ That point in her life. Well, that's slightly confusing and ominous. ]

No, not really. And I'm pretty tough to hurt, while we're at it.

[And she gives a lofty little chuckle]

You seem suspicious all of a suddenly. I just told you; there's no threat of harm from me, unless another makes the first move.

[ He shrugs. ]

No, it's nothing like that. And I'm not really the fighting kind, y'know?

Mm. Well, that certainly has its merits. Though I'm not sure how well it would work in an environment like this. Some conflict seems inevitable, even if it isn't with such sentient beings.

I've done okay so far. Haven't fought with anybody or anything.

Well that is fortunate. And the... resident beasts?
