[ The feed starts, showing someone's shoes, and a small, bright red ferret blinking up. The view quickly changes as Bolin ditches the communicator in favor of his friend, finally coming into view, addressing--yes, that's right, the ferret. He's talking to the ferret. ]

Pabu! Oh, you have no idea how good it is to see you, buddy. Do you know if Mako's around? I can't find--

[ He's interrupted by the sound of trash cans falling over. He turns quickly, coming face-to-face with one of the larger local monsters. And boy does it look happy to see him, jaws wide and claws ready. Bolin doesn't seem concerned as he shifts into a stance, raising an arm up to punch at the air, towards the monster.

Nothing happens.

Bolin stands there shocked, no--horrified, as the monster's teeth sink into his arm.

What happened to his bending?

The pain seems to snap him back to reality, and he shoves the monster off, turning to run. Pabu, bless his soul, nabs the communicator and scampers after Bolin--climbing onto his shoulder once he catches up. The feed is bumpy for a while, little paws on the screen with a lovely picture of the sky.

Once he's lost the monster he stops, crouching low behind some rubble to catch his breath. ]

It's those blasted scientists... they've done their tinkering to you and now like me you can't fight for beans! Well... actually I could still fight for beans... but that's about it. Yohohoho! Would you like me to try to find you, so we can bandage up that arm of yours?

Right then, well I've found some cloth I can wrap your wounds in, and some clean water to wash out your wound... I just need to know where you are.

Yeah! It's...moving the earth, you know? I'd show you if...I actually could earthbend right now. But I can't so it'll have to wait for another time.

Right. Uh. I think it's Horton? Yeah, nnnot really sure. But that's what the sign I just passed said.

Interesting... so you can sort of lift and control the earth with your will or something to that effect?

[Brooke shuts off the communicator, and can soon be seen strolling up and down the street searching for the earthbender.]

Yes! exactly that.

Oh. And I'll...be here.

[ He spots Brooke when he starts walking up and down the street. At first he things Oh god it's another monster! But when the guy keeps casually walking, he starts to think that maybe...he's the one here to help.

He'll peek up from his hiding spot. ]

Hey, uh. Pssst. Over here.

Aha! There you are my good chap! I was worried when I couldn't find you, but it seems that you are making sure to keep yourself hidden. A wise decision!

[Brooke walks over to him using his cane as he walks]

Now then, let's see that arm of yours, we don't want it getting infected. I'm lucky, since I'm just bones, my arm can't get infected anymore. Yohohoho!

Yeah, I really learned my lesson quick. And running into more monsters didn't really seem like a good...plan.

[ He seems somewhat unsure---and would have probably laughed at that joke, if the circumstances were a bit different---but holds out his arm. It's not all that pretty. ]

Infected? It's not going to get infected. I mean, it can't, that wouldn't be cool.

You know... I don't think your arm cares how cool it is... just saying.

[Brooke pulls out a bottle of water to clean the wound first, before dressing it with bandages.]

Have you ever had to deal with monsters before?

Yeah I guess...

[ He turns his face away when Brooke cleans and bandages the wound. ]

Noooot really, no. I don't think I've ever seen monsters before now, actually.

Hmm... seems a little risky to try to take one on then, don't you think? You must normally be quite something with this earth bending thing of yours.

Well...yeah, I mean. I can do a lot with earthbending! I may be new to these monsters, but...fighting is the same everywhere, isn't it? So if I had had my bending, I should have been able to defend myself even if I'd never fought them before.

I...think, anyway.

Rule number 1, never judge an opponent by your skills alone.

You said that you thought you could take the monster with your earthbending correct? But you've never come up against one before, so it was a little foolhardy to be presumptuous of it's capabilities. When dealing with the unknown caution is always advisable, for all you know it could be immune to earth bending or something like that.

Immune to earthbending? Well...I guess, I mean. This place is pretty weird--I wouldn't normally charge into a fight anyway. But at least I'd be able to defend myself if I had my bending, you know?
